The Reason For This Site
What you find on this site began taking shape more than 27 years ago when we wrote a song to go with a sermon series on Psalms. The first Vitamin J song was for Psalm 19:1-4 - The Heavens Declare The Glory Of God. Over time more and more tunes were written either for use in corporate worship or to assist in Scripture memorization.
The lyrics of these songs are not of human origin. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that they are God-breathed. All through Scripture we are exhorted to do more than just give lip service to these words. Deuteronomy 6:6 and 11:18 ask us to put them in our hearts. Proverbs 2:1-2 tells us to store up wisdom. Psalm 119 in its entirety reinforces the benefits of doing so.
Jesus, the Word became flesh, is recorded in John 15:7 as saying that these words help us to remain in Him. Paul's letter to the Colossians reminds us that these words are the foundation of the church. They form the basis of our gratitude to Him. There is much more to be said on this topic but we trust that this is enough to get started.
We do have a few small words of caution.
Just knowing the songs is a great start because it gets the words into your head. However, getting them to your heart is a whole other matter. We encourage you to take extra steps to work toward that goal.
Either as a song or simply as a quote it can be easy to apply a passage incorrectly or out of context. We encourage you to be like the Bereans in Acts 17:11 and take to heart Paul's admonition in 2 Timothy 2:15. To put it plainly, just knowing verses is a good start, but if we are not actively engaged in deeper study then it just becomes rote learning. Romans 12:2 tells us to pursue a transformation of our minds so that we can see God's will in and for our lives. Again there is much more that could be said, but for now we leave you with a blessing: The Lord Bless You and Keep You.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these songs AI generated?
AI has been used in the production of many of these songs. The text is obviously not AI generated, since it comes straight from God's Word. The melodies are original and human-generated. These tunes have been developed over the past 27 years.
Do you have or plan to have real human performances?
Short answer is yes, Lord willing. If you visit our YouTube channel you can find some versions of the songs that are rough live recordings. As time and funds permit we may release albums of more polished human performances. Ultimately the goal of releasing these songs in this fashion is to make them available for Scripture memorization, not to promote an artist or performance group.
Can I perform these songs publicly?
Yes. That is one reason we provide extra resources such as chord sheets and backing tracks. However, depending on your plans there may be legal details involved, so this answer should be read as a general yes rather than legal advice. Please contact us with your specific plans.
Do I have to use the songs to memorize the verses?
Definitely not. They can certainly help but they are not essential. The whole point is to be memorizing, not singing songs.
There is a verse I would love a song for. Can I request one?
Yes. Use the feedback form to submit your request. We cannot promise we will be able to produce the song quickly, or at all, but if you include your contact details we can let you know when one is ready to release.
I don't care for the musical style of a particular song. Can I ask for an alternative?
Sure. Use our feedback form. Another option is to search for the verse reference and find other people who have created their own songs.
What version of the Bible do these songs use?
Currently, all the songs on this site are based on the New International Version (NIV). If you prefer a different version, you may find the tune still works with different wording. For instance, Genesis 1:1 is very similar across many English translations.
I'd like to donate to this ministry.
The Lord has blessed us with enough financial resources at this point that we do not need to solicit additional funds. If God is leading you to give something, we recommend donating to your local Bible Society so your gift can support Bible translation work. Many people in our world still do not have God's Word in their heart language.
I have a collaboration project to discuss.
